The Great Resignation

When DJ Khaled said “They don’t want you to wiiin!”, he might have thought he was talking about other people’s thoughts about us. In reality I think it’s more likely our own thoughts about ourselves that, left unchecked, end up getting in our way.
This week I wanted to dig a little deeper and explore the notion of limiting beliefs and the ways in which they show up. I had one of my favourite humans, Jivan Virdee, join me for a chat about this - have a listen for all the nuggets of wisdom she shared. She recently joined the wave of folks taking part in the ‘great resignation’, a movement where people all over the western world took the plunge and left seemingly great-on-paper careers for the unknown.
She’s a health and science nerd, product guru, writer, and full-time londoner. We talked about some of the ways she navigated through her own limiting beliefs as she went from being an employee to being her own boss. She shared her process and all the things she’s learned so far.
The lessons I took away from the chat were:
Taking a proper break away from your day to day routine can help bring clarity to how you’re really feeling.
Interrogating feelings of malaise or discontent can be valuable - I like the stop start continue framework which can help narrow down exactly what needs changing.
What is your value system? Jivan gave a really great rundown of what her personal value system was and you hear it show up repeatedly throughout her journey so far. What are your personal principles? Checking in regularly with them will keep you on the right path even when you’re unsure where you’re going.
I’ve mentioned this before but the way we speak to ourselves is probably the biggest determiner of our ability to live lives we’re content with.
And last but definitely not least, focusing on the journey will take you way further than focusing on the goal will.
As ever, I hope this helps give you some food for thought. If you’d like some personalised help applying some of these learnings to your own journey, I can definitely help so get in touch.
